SAN LEANDRO POLICE OFFICERS TO RUN THE DALLAS MARATHON
December 11, 2016 will mark the 46th year of the Dallas Marathon, but it will also be a day of coping and camaraderie for law enforcement families. Several members of the San Leandro Police Department, led by Sgt Ryan Gill, will be joining other police officers in Dallas to run the Dallas Marathon in full Police uniform. Running alongside uniformed Officers will be several family members and friends who will be wearing support t-shirts to show respect for the fallen and injured.
The "Blue Stampede" will be running the Dallas Marathon to pay tribute to those officers who died on July 7th 2016, and the many other officers, deputies and troopers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. They will be running to help those affected to cope with this tragic incident by showing that their law enforcement family will stop at nothing to be there for them in their time of need. The marathon will represent the journey most face in a law enforcement career, and will be an example of how officers will not quit regardless of the challenges or pain faced. "When we see each other hurting it, and struggling to cope with the pains... we will be there to get each other through it".
The following quote sums up the message of their mission:
I run because I can...
When I get tired,
I remember those who can't run,
What they'd give to have this simple gift I take for granted,
And I run harder for them.
I know they would do the same for me.
