Bikes for Tykes 2016
The San Leandro Police Officers Association (SLPOA) had its “Bikes for Tykes” program revitalized in 2009 by Officer Louie Brandt, who leads the fundraising efforts. In partnership with the Davis Street Family Resource Center, the SLPOA is able to distribute bicycles during the non-profit agency’s annual “Holiday Basket and Toy Program,” providing hundreds of new bicycles to eligible boys and girls between the ages of 3 to 14 by virtue of a random drawing.
Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised through a series of event fundraisers, including business and personal donations, to fund the purchase of new bicycles from the San Leandro Wal-Mart with many more bicycles acquired through donations. There are over 100 community businesses and individuals contributing to and sponsoring these efforts, the Kiwanis Club of San Leandro generously donates thousands of dollars for new helmets, and the San Leandro Wal-Mart offers discounts and donates countless hours assembling each bicycle so that it is ready to take home.
The SLPOA and San Leandro Police Chief Jeff Tudor invite you to this year’s Bikes for Tykes distribution on Saturday, December 17 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Davis Street Family Resource Center, 3081 Teagarden Street, San Leandro, CA 94577.
