Dan Fernandez - President
Prior to being hired by the San Leandro Police Department 12 years ago, Dan was an Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. His assignments with San Leandro have included Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division. This is Dan's first term as President of the POA Board.
Mike Olivera - Vice President
Mike is a San Leandro native, began his employment with the San Leandro Police Department in 1998, and is currently assigned to the Patrol Division. Mike has previously been assigned as a Jailer, Financial Crime Detective, and member of the Bay Area Identity Theft (B.A.I.T.) Task Force. Mike has served as a Field Training Officer, Report Writing Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, member of both the Hostage Negotiation and Critical Incident Stress Management Teams, and this is his second term as a Board Member for the Police Officers' Association.
Bob Sanchez - Treasurer
Bob has been with the San Leandro Police Department since 2001. His involvement with the POA started in 2004 and he is currently the Treasurer. Bob is assigned as a Detective Sergeant in the Criminal Investigation Division and also serves as a member of the Evidence Response Team, the Hostage Negotiation Team and the Critical Incident Stress Management Team.
Jeff Walton - Secretary
Jeff is a veteran of the United States Air Force and began his career as a police officer at the U.C. Berkeley Police Department in 2006. Jeff transferred to the San Leandro Police Department in 2007. During his career as a police officer, Jeff has held assignments in Patrol and Criminal Investigations as a property crime and crimes against person’s detective. Jeff is currently assigned to the patrol division where he serves as Field Training Officer and member of the SWAT team. Jeff hold a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and has served as POA board member and POA secretary.
DJ Sekhon - Board Member
DJ was born and raised in San Leandro. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, he was hired by the Stockton Police Department as a police officer. DJ transferred to the San Leandro Police Department and served in the patrol division. He is currently assigned to the traffic enforcement unit and holds the additional responsibilities of being a Field Training Officer and member of the SWAT team.
Maria Cortez - Board Member
Maria was born and raised in San Leandro. She became a full time San Leandro Police Department employee in 2011 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Maria has served as a records clerk, a police services technician, and most currently is assigned to the patrol division. In 2019, Maria became the first female police officer to join the department’s SWAT team.
Iain Fry - Board Member
Iain began his career with the San Jose Police Department. Iain has served as a bicycle enforcement officer and field training officer. Iain is currently assigned to the patrol division and is a member of the Hostage Negotiations Team.
Keith Geiger - Board Member
Officer Geiger has been a member of the San Leandro Police department since 2011, after spending four years with the Oakland Police Department. He was recently elected to the SLPOA board of directors. Officer Geiger is a member of the San Leandro SWAT team and is currently assigned to the Patrol Division where he serves as a Field Training Officer.
Kevin Hackl - Board Member
Kevin began his law enforcement career as a reserve police officer with the city of Hayward in 1998. He was later hired (full time) by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office in 1999. He came to the San Leandro Police Department in 2006. He is currently assigned as a School Resource Officer. Kevin has served as a Field Training Officer, K9 handler, Firearms Instructor and member of the peer support team. This is his second term on the POA as a board member.
